Time capsule at Ironworks, Mill Road preserves memories

Ironworks time capsule burried

Ironworks time capsule burried

As the final residents move into our flagship development, Ironworks, Mill Road, Cambridge, Ward Councillors and members of the CIP team have buried a time capsule which contains memories from the team working on the site, along with historical information and images of its former uses as a Foundry and Council Depot and staff linked to the site.

It’s an exciting time at Ironworks, as our final residents have moved into their new homes, and we look forward to seeing the opening of the new community centre shortly. We are extremely proud of what is being delivered here, providing 50% new sustainable council homes and a thriving community which will be enjoyed by many for years to come. Cllr Gerri Bird, Executive Councillor for Housing at Cambridge City Council and CIP board member
This development is steeped in so much history and it seems only fitting that we have been able to create a time capsule which is full of these memories, as well as our own in building this flagship development. In years to come, I hope people will be able to unearth it and learn more about its importance in Cambridge. Tom Hill, Managing Director for The Hill Group

Built on the site of the former Victorian Iron Foundry and more recently the council depot, the brand-new community of Ironworks features 236 new studio homes, one- and two-bedroom apartments, and two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, with half for private sale and half as council rented homes.

With almost 30% of the development green open space, great emphasis has been placed on creating a place for everyone to enjoy, with parks, high-quality landscaping and a new community centre woven into the design.
