LABC Building Excellence Awards 2024 winner: Best Large Social Housing Development

The LABC Grand Finals 2024 took place on Friday 24 January 2025, at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel. A celebration recognising excellent projects and individual contributions within the construction industry.

A panel of expert judges carefully reviewed a diverse range of exceptional projects, professionals, and teams, recognising their invaluable contributions to the industry.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards highlight the key role of public sector building control teams in ensuring the safety, quality, and sustainability of construction projects, showcasing the sector’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of Best Large Social Housing Development is Campkin Road, Cambridge.

Campkin Road, located in North Cambridge, has replaced 32 aging post-war council homes – no longer cost-effective to maintain or renovate – with 75 brand-new council homes and apartments, along with a fully accessible community centre for local residents. Campkin Road is now an affordable housing development, built to provide much needed high quality, sustainable council homes for the city’s most vulnerable tenants.

The site team and 3C Shared Services developed a strong, trust-based relationship throughout the project, with clear and open communication. This collaboration allowed inspections to be scheduled with just 24 hours’ notice, ensuring smooth handovers and allowing tenants to move in more quickly. The Technical team also coordinated closely with Building Control before starting key construction elements, preventing potential issues and ensuring full compliance with building regulations – resulting in a successful and efficient housing project at Campkin Road.
