Council acquires children’s nursery at Timberworks development in Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE City Council has acquired a new children’s nursery at the Timberworks development on Cromwell Road
CAMBRIDGE City Council has acquired a new children’s nursery at the Timberworks development on Cromwell Road, and it has been let out to a provider.
The nursery is on the ground floor of one of the residential blocks being built at Timberworks, our largest development to date. The nursery operator, N Family Club, plan to move in and start operating later this year.
Once open, the nursery will provide early years education in accessible rooms, outdoor play spaces, communal areas and other facilities for children of pre-school age who live at Timberworks or in nearby communities.
This marks an exciting moment for Timberworks. When it opens later this year, the new nursery will provide a real focal point for the community there and we look forward to working with N Family Club and to welcome the first children to what I’m sure will be a fantastic place for them and their parents. The council has purchased the nursery on a long-term lease from CIP, with the lease set to revert to the council when the last housing unit at Timberworks is sold.
Financed by the sale of older properties in the council’s commercial property portfolio no longer meeting requirements, the acquisition will help improve the environmental performance as a whole of council-owned properties, the quality of its investments and also help diversify the types of properties owned by the council.
Timberworks comprises 118 new council rented homes, all of which are wheelchair accessible and one two-bedroom property specially adapted for wheelchair users. Once completed there will also be 173 private sale homes, landscaped central park and open spaces, play equipment, public art, parking for cars and bicycle parking including a basement car park plus electric vehicle charging spaces for every house and 10% of the communal area.
