As part of artist Lilah Fowler’s research for the artwork at the Meadows, she collaborated with Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination and local schools to explore the world wide web of fungi beneath our feet.

Through this work with the arts and well-being charity Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination, the pupils have been able to contribute artworks, inspired by fungi, which have become part of the magnificent Fantastical Forest.

Fantastical Forest is a unique community art exhibition, held each year at local and national events to celebrate creativity, community, and our natural world. Now in its third year, the forest is made up of 75 stunning muslin hangings each carefully designed by CCI artists and drawing on work made in workshops they’ve run with 12 different communities across Cambridgeshire since 2019.

Three schools were involved in the workshops developed for the Meadows, each producing artwork for a hanging to be displayed in the touring exhibition. We’re really proud that through the project the schools could contribute to this extraordinary and memorable project.

The full collection can be seen later this month on Saturday 26th November in Wandlebury Country Park. It is hung there each year in their magnificent Beech Avenue to mark Tree Charter Day, a moment when communities repledge their commitment to caring for the trees around us.

The event is free and all are welcome. 10.30am-3pm.

Our thanks to all the pupils and teachers from Abury Primary, St Lawrence’s Primary, and Stapleford Primary who took part in the project.
